WISE VIRTUE TO KNOW TIME. TIME USE BY GENDER: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS BETWEEN MEXICO AND EUROPE

This article shows some of the features concerning the time dedicated to domestic work. A comparative analysis is developed among Mexico, Spain and a set of twelve European countries. This analysis is based on the Time Use Surveys performed in 2002 and/or 2003. A demographic and economic context is given to support the analysis, also sustained by the theory on domestic work. The differences and the similarities described are regarding the time that people devote to the domestic work, whether they participate or not in the labour market, in order to show social needs that require solution. Likewise, the existence of gender inequalities is confirmed and dimensions about such disparities are given.
