Revista:
27 - 2011
Autores:
Deborah JOHNSTON
Resumen:
The international education goals enshrined in the UN Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs) have had a significant impact in sub-Saharan
African countries. Are they likely to achieve the varied developmental roles
ascribed to education, such as poverty reduction, improvements in child
mortality, fertility decrease, increases in tax collection and rising economic

Resumen:
The food crisis, started in 2007 with the increasement of food international
prices, is markedly affecting Sub-Saharian Africa both economically and
nutritionally. Nevertheless, it’s a chronic situation, characterised by high
hunger rates provoked by several structural factors. Within this context,
Millenium Development Goals show several deficiencies although there are

Achievements and challenges for health in africa: the importance of national health systems for MDGs
Revista:

Eduardo Bidaurratzaga
Resumen:
Many of the worst indicators of well-being and health are to be found in
sub-Saharan Africa: they include low existing levels of satisfaction of basic
needs, alongside worrying trends such as the sharp declines in life expectancy
in recent decades in some countries and striking failures to achieve the MDGs.
Such a situation seems to qualify the continent in the specialized literature as a

MDG4: Hope or despair for Africa?
Revista:

Autores:

Resumen:
Sub-Saharan Africa is repeatedly painted as a failure in achieving the
Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). This article focuses on MDG4 (reduction
of two thirds in the under-five mortality rate between 1990 and 2015) and
analyses the relative merit of the MDG framework as well as the success or
failure of SSA in achieving this target. The authors argue that despite the positive

The european union trade relations with its neighbors: europeanization, internationalization or coordination?

Resumen:
Most of the literature on the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) has
assumed that it is an instrument directed at Europeanising neighbours. Through
this policy, the EU would be encouraging its neighbour countries to adopt an
EU-specific economic, and even social and political, model. This is not, however,
the evidence one obtains analysing the EU commercial relations with four of its

Resumen:
There is a lot of economic literature on the trade effects (trade creation,
trade diversion, intraindustrial specialisation) of the integration processes. One
of the most analyzed integration processes is the European case, which has
been the aim of many studies because its long evolution and depth. This work

‘Environmental sustain ability’, agricultural intensification and water resource development in Sub-saharan Africa
Revista:

Autores:
Philip WOODHOUSE
Resumen:

Progress in achieving the Millenium Development Goals (MDG) in Africa has been undermined by failure to reduce under-nutrition, yet efforts to increase agricultural output are circumscribed by indicators for MDG 7, particularly with regard to maintenance of forested areas and conservation of water resources. This implies that increasing agricultural production must be sought from agricultural intensification.
